Thought I'd Throw A Little Spring At You After Such A Real Winter

Photos From The U.S. Crossing

---Thought you might like to see the knapsack and tent I carried on my run across the U.S.. Total weight when it was full was about 25 pounds. I carried a change of running clothes, a 2nd pair of running shoes, powdered milk, powdered protein, vitamins, slightly over a half gallon of water, toiletries, note books, and a slightly under 6 pound tent.

---It wasn't so bad except when running up the mountains. Mountains like the Sierra Mt. and the Rocky Mt.. Berthoud Pass in the Rockies at 11,400 ft. was the true test. I wish I had one of the new high tech strollers I keep writing about.

NEEDLES--DID YOU SAY-- NEEDLES?????

Monday, February 7, 2011

----I would like you to meet Marta. Marta introduced me to the world of acupuncture and it's abilities to heal. As a meat and potatoes kind of guy, and someone who truly does not like needles (especially when the are stuck in me), I was very reluctant to try this avenue of healing.

----Having an injury for going onto 2 and 1/2 years that nothing seemed to be helping, I felt I had to turn to something different. Marta owns Stay In Touch. Though acupuncture, herbs and nutrition, and deep tissue massage, Marta and her team work on healing without drugs and many of the things that western medicine pushes upon their patience. Check out www.stayintouchcenter.com to see more about this great lady and the healing that her and her team generate.

----As far as "the needle thing" (and I have talked to many of you needle fearing people like me) there is no pain to the needles and they carry amazing healing powers.

----Marta also has a very competitive back round in sports and I can relate to her at that level. She also has a very gentle nature and spirit about her. But, she knows how to gently slap me up side the head when I push beyond what I should be doing. Many times I will burst into laughter driving home from a session with Marta. I'll be playing back, in my head, our conversation during the hour or so we were together and realize she let me know how "not so smart" I was being to my body, without telling me how stupid I'd been. I KNOW-I KNOW- you're thinking women have been doing this to men since the beginning of time. Probably very true. I just think it's a special thing between us, because, I'm looking for it and still miss it until I finally get it later on.

----You will be reading more about Marta and a massage therapist named Rochelle, both in this blog section and on the Tardy Foundation website. Again check out www.stayintouchcenter.com to read more about these great people.

ANNOUNCEMENTS--ANNOUNCEMENTS

Although the weather has hindered the up grading of the website (due to meetings that had to be postponed), you will see it emerge soon.

---Also you will here about the Tardy Foundation that has gotten it's approval from the IRS as an official 501(c).

-----You will also have a chance to be a part of the history setting next run and/or a part of the many races I am now involved in organizing.

-----And, last but not least, I have recently agreed to speak in a few different places. The biggest venue so far is in the Chicago area at the end of June. I will be speaking in front of 1000's of people WHO ARE MY HEROES. The organization that sponsored my 1st run has asked me to speak at their national convention. The National Council Of Corvette Clubs took a long shot chance on some crazy 23 year old who, before it was common place, had the crazy idea that he was going to run from coast to coast. The rest, as they say, is history.

New Friends, Old Friends, And Legends

-----Why do I love to run so many races each year?? Because of the people I meet and the stories that come with them. Here are some examples. These pictures were taken at the Talking Turkey 6 miler in Holyoke, Ma. on the weekend after Thanksgiving 2010.
-----Pam is a new friend that I met in the crowd as we were all waiting for the starting gun. With 1100 people and a narrow road to start on we had time to chat a bit until she jumped ahead of me with the widening of the course. A mile or so out I could see her up ahead of me. All of a sudden she stopped and began walking along the trail. I thought she might have injured herself. At least until she walked into the woods, apologised to the runners, dropped trough behind a very skinny tree and got rid of some extra liquid weight.
----I ran past and figured I wouldn't see her again til the finish, since she had made this unexpected pit stop. BUT, you guessed it, a few minutes later she when bounding by me. When we did meet up after the race, she said she was thankful I didn't carry my camera while running the races.
-----Norm is a long time, great friend. He competes in a few of the races that I do and it's always fun to talk to him and catch up on many parts of our lives. Someday soon I want to get a picture of him and his son and let you see a great father/ son team. Which is another reason I love the world of running.
-----Suzanne, this is a woman who does so many races-and hard ones-yet stays so humble. When I do see her, I love to tell people of her talent and give her the props she deserves.
-----Then there are the quiet legends. Jim(white shirt) and I are pictured with Tommy Leonard. This man has been running and organizing runs since before I was old enough to understand what running was. Tommy organized the race we had ust finished. This was the 31st year and had raised tons of money for the city and charities. Tommy also organized some of the Falmouth races and many others for decades. Yet, if someone didn't tell you his back round you would never know the legendary person that he is.
-----This was the 3rd time I've run this race, also my 3rd Thanksgiving race of 2010, and it has always been a great event so you can enjoy the holiday a little bit more.
